Research suggests that acupuncture may play a meaningful role in supporting egg and embryo quality, particularly for women undergoing fertility treatments. Studies have shown that acupuncture can improve blood flow to the ovaries, which enhances the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to developing follicles — a key factor in egg health. A 2020 review published in Frontiers in Endocrinology found that acupuncture helped regulate reproductive hormones, including FSH, LH, and estradiol, contributing to better follicular development and higher-quality oocytes. Additional research points to acupuncture's ability to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, both of which are known to compromise egg and embryo quality. For women with diminished ovarian reserve or recurrent implantation failure, these effects may translate to improved IVF outcomes, including higher fertilization rates and more viable embryos.
