GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro are generally not recommended during pregnancy because their effects on fetal development have not been adequately studied, and animal studies have raised safety concerns. Although limited human data have not yet demonstrated a clear increase in birth defects, the evidence remains insufficient to establish safety. Women planning pregnancy should consult their prescribing physician in advance; semaglutide, for example, should be discontinued at least two months before conception. Anyone who becomes pregnant while taking a GLP-1 medication should contact their physician promptly rather than stopping or changing treatment without medical guidance.
